Google has commenced the rollout of Android 14 QPR2 Beta 3.1, a significant update focused on bug fixes and improvements. This release comes on the heels of the previous milestone, which introduced notable UI changes a fortnight ago.
The firmware, labeled AP11.231215.009 and bundled with the January 2024 security patch, is now available for an array of supported devices, including Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, and Pixel 8 Pro. Notably, the on-device OTA (over-the-air) update for Pixel Tablet weighs in at 122MB.
Several issues have been addressed in this update, including a bug preventing overlays like the Game Dashboard from opening in landscape mode. Another resolved issue pertains to device unlocking failure when the always-on display mode is active and the user attempts to use their fingerprint. The update also fixes problems with the Quick Settings dialog, default search engine settings, and the display area update in accessibility settings.
Moreover, the Android 14 QPR2 Beta 3.1 addresses audio quality degradation during calls or recordings, keyboard settings change restrictions, missing translations in various languages, work profile icon display, shader rendering issues, incorrect scaling of icons in picture-in-picture mode, launcher glitches on foldable devices, and touch control problems with the app divider on foldable devices. Additionally, it rectifies screen flickering and gray screen flashes on foldable and tablet devices, respectively, and enhances touch targets for taskbar icons and navigation buttons on tablets.
This comprehensive update aims to enhance system stability, performance, connectivity, camera functionality, and accessibility across the supported devices. Users can expect an improved and smoother experience with their Android 14 devices after installing this update.
