Apple Intelligence: This is the highlight of the update. Apple Intelligence includes writing tools that allow users to rewrite, proofread, and summarize text directly within apps It also introduces a new Photos app Clean Up feature, notification summaries, and a refreshed Siri interface
Enhanced Siri: Siri gets a new look with a glowing light indicator and improved language understanding. Users can now type to Siri, and Siri can maintain conversational context over multiple interactions.
Photos App: The Photos app now includes a search feature that lets users find photos and videos by describing what they’re looking for. The Clean Up feature removes distractions from photos, and Memory movies can be created by describing the story you want to see
Notifications: iOS 18.1 introduces notification summaries, making it easier to catch up on important notifications with a glance. A new Focus mode called Reduce Interruptions ensures urgent notifications get through while silencing potential distractions
Call Recording and Transcription: The update brings new call recording and transcription features, allowing users to record and transcribe phone calls easily
Control Center: Users can now customize the Control Center with individual controls for connectivity options like Wi-Fi and VPN
AirPods Pro 2: Alongside iOS 18.1, Apple is also releasing a major firmware update for AirPods Pro 2, which includes new hearing health features such as a clinical-grade hearing aid, a hearing test, and robust hearing protection
NFC Access: For the first time, Apple is opening up the iPhone’s NFC chip to third-party developers, enabling new apps and integrations for contactless technology
Camera Control: iPhone 16 users will get a new Camera Control option, allowing them to quickly switch to the selfie camera with a few taps within the Camera app
Availability and Waitlist
Apple Intelligence will be available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Users can join the waitlist via Settings to get access faster
