Kali Linux has officially released version 2024.4, the fourth and final update of 2024. This release brings a host of new features and improvements, making it an exciting update for cybersecurity professionals and ethical hackers. Here are some of the standout features of Kali Linux 2024.4:

Key Features of Kali Linux 2024.4
  • New Tools: The release includes 14 new tools designed to enhance penetration testing and security research. Some of the notable additions are xsrfprobe for advanced Cross Site Request Forgery (CSRF/XSRF) audit and exploitation, zenmap as the Network Mapper (nmap) front end, and python-pipx for isolated execution of Python packages.
  • Python 3.12: Kali Linux 2024.4 introduces Python 3.12 as the default interpreter. This update aims to improve security and efficiency by discouraging the use of pip for system-wide package installations and promoting the use of pipx instead.
  • Improved Raspberry Pi Support: The update brings enhanced support for the Raspberry Pi Imager, allowing users to configure settings such as custom hostname, login credentials, SSH keys, WiFi configuration, and local settings automatically.
  • GNOME 47: Kali Linux 2024.4 includes the GNOME 47 desktop environment, offering new features and accent color options.
  • Deprecation of i386 Builds: Following Debian’s decision to drop support for 32-bit builds, Kali Linux 2024.4 no longer includes i386 images. However, i386 packages can still be run on 64-bit systems.
  • OpenSSH 9.8p1: The latest release includes OpenSSH 9.8p1, which deprecates SSH DSA keys. For legacy systems requiring DSA keys, the new build includes the SSH1 client.

Kali Linux 2024.4 is a significant update that brings new tools, improved support for Raspberry Pi, and the latest GNOME desktop environment. The deprecation of i386 builds and the introduction of Python 3.12 highlight Kali Linux’s commitment to staying current with technological advancements and security best practices.
