OnePlus has officially announced the release of OxygenOS 15, its latest custom Android skin built on top of Android 15. Set to roll out on October 30, 2024, this update promises to bring a host of new features and improvements aimed at enhancing user experience, productivity, and creativity.
Key Features of OxygenOS 15
- AI-Powered Enhancements: OxygenOS 15 introduces several AI features designed to boost productivity and creativity. Notable among these are AI Detail Boost, which sharpens distant or blurry subjects, AI Unblur, which removes blurriness from photos, and AI Reflection Eraser, which eliminates reflections on surfaces.
- Smooth Animations: OnePlus has revamped the underlying animations of Android to deliver smoother and more fluid effects across the system. This includes parallel processing for animations, allowing multiple animations to run simultaneously without waiting for one to finish.
- Customizable Lockscreen: Users can now enjoy a variety of lockscreen styles and fonts, along with options to edit clock color, add blur effects, and swap Always-On Display styles. This customization extends to the Always-On Display, which seamlessly transitions to the home screen.
- Intelligent Search: The new Intelligent Search feature can trawl through files, apps, and settings to answer general queries, making it easier to find information quickly.
- AI Notes and AI Writing Tools: Powered by Google Gemini, OxygenOS 15 includes AI Notes with summarization and transcription abilities, as well as AI writing tools that can help with drafting emails, messages, and more.
- Circle to Search: This feature allows users to access search directly from the home screen by drawing a circle with their finger, making it faster to find information.
- Theft Detection: A new security feature that uses gyroscopic and routine-monitoring data to lock down the phone if it detects unusual activity, helping to protect user data in case of theft.
OxygenOS 15 is set to be available as an open beta for the OnePlus 12 initially, with other devices expected to receive the update in phases over the coming months. This staggered release will allow OnePlus to gather feedback and ensure a smooth rollout for all eligible devices.
