The Raspberry Pi Foundation has officially announced the highly awaited Raspberry Pi 5 single-board computer, set to be purchasable by the end of October 2023.
The Raspberry Pi 5 is equipped with a formidable Broadcom BCM2712 2.4GHz Quad-Core 64-bit ARM Cortex-A76 CPU, featuring 512KB per-core L2 caches and a 2MB shared L3 cache. Complementing the robust CPU is a VideoCore VII GPU, supporting advanced graphics technologies like OpenGL ES 3.1 and Vulkan 1.2. The device impresses with dual 4Kp60 HDMI display output and a 4Kp60 HEVC decoder.
In terms of connectivity, the Raspberry Pi 5 boasts dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0 LE. It offers two USB 3.0 ports supporting simultaneous 5Gbps operation, along with two USB 2.0 ports. Furthermore, it features a Gigabit Ethernet port with PoE+ support, requiring a separate PoE+ HAT available shortly after the SBC’s release.
Additionally, this single-board computer is equipped with a high-speed microSD card interface supporting SDR104 mode, two 4-lane MIPI camera/display transceivers, a PCIe 2.0 x1 interface for swift peripherals, a standard 40-pin GPIO header, real-time clock, and a power button.
In terms of RAM options, the Raspberry Pi 5 offers two variants: 4GB and 8GB, priced at $60 USD and $80 USD respectively. Pre-orders for the SBC are open through approved reseller partners, with shipping expected at the end of October.
