WhatsApp Business is introducing several new features, including a significant artificial intelligence (AI) enhancement to help business owners automate some of their communications more effectively.
At an event in São Paulo, the social media giant unveiled a new AI-powered chatbot for WhatsApp Business. This update also includes the introduction of the Meta Verified badge for these users, with India being one of the first markets to receive these features. Additionally, the company is testing a new Call functionality for business accounts.
AI Assistant for WhatsApp Business
In recent months, Meta has introduced chatbots powered by its Llama-3 AI model across WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger in various markets. The Meta AI chatbot offers general text-based capabilities and can also generate images. Now, a similar AI assistant is being rolled out for WhatsApp Business users.
According to a newsroom post by Meta, “We’re training AI to respond to the most popular questions businesses receive on WhatsApp, so they can quickly help customers find the answers they’re seeking.” This feature aims to provide intelligent assistance based on customer needs, beyond just sending pre-written responses.
This AI assistant can also be used to market products and services to potential customers, aiming to enhance communication automation with AI technology and make businesses more reliant on these tools.
Currently, this feature is under testing and will soon be rolled out in India and Singapore, followed by Brazil. It remains unclear whether it will be available to all WhatsApp Business users in these regions or in a limited capacity.
Meta Verified Badge for WhatsApp Business
Meta is extending its Verified badges, already seen on Facebook and Instagram, to WhatsApp Business accounts. These badges, displayed as a white checkmark within a green starburst circle, will appear next to the business name.
The badge signifies that the business has registered its information with Meta and receives advanced account support from the company. The Meta Verified badge will be visible on the WhatsApp Channel and the custom WhatsApp page for businesses. The rollout of these badges has already begun in India, Brazil, Indonesia, and Colombia.
Testing Call Functionality for Business Accounts
In addition to these features, Meta is also testing a new calling functionality for WhatsApp Business account holders. This feature will allow customers to call larger businesses directly on WhatsApp, enabling quick resolution of issues and assistance with complex requests. However, Meta has not provided a timeline for the launch of this feature.
