WhatsApp, a popular instant messaging platform originally designed for smartphones, has expanded its reach to computers, including a recent release of a new macOS version. Excitingly, WhatsApp is now making its way to iPad, enabling users to conveniently access their messages on any Apple device.
The beta version of WhatsApp for iPad is now accessible, according to a report by WABetaInfo. This latest WhatsApp Beta version, available through Apple’s TestFlight, is compatible with iPadOS. Prior to this, iPad users were confined to using the web version, as there was no dedicated app for iPad, and the iPhone version wasn’t compatible with Apple’s tablet.
Functionality on the iPad mirrors the approach taken with the Mac app. Upon installation and launch of the app, users are prompted to scan a QR Code using WhatsApp on their phone. Subsequently, the app downloads all existing conversations, allowing seamless message exchange across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Remarkably, the iPad app operates independently of the iPhone’s proximity or Wi-Fi connection, similar to the new macOS app. The interface is optimized for the iPad’s larger screen, presenting more content in organized columns. Whispers of WhatsApp working on an iPad app initially surfaced in 2021.
However, it’s worth noting that like the desktop version, the iPad iteration functions as a companion app. In essence, you can’t create a new WhatsApp account through it. Nevertheless, the availability of an iPad app for accessing phone messages is undoubtedly a positive development for WhatsApp enthusiasts.
As for the public release date of WhatsApp for iPad, it remains uncertain. The beta version is presently restricted to TestFlight access, which is challenging to obtain due to the limited slots available.
